The Red Light District Tour of Galveston is a walking tour with a route that covers approximately 12 city blocks. Please wear comfortable, weather-appropriate clothing and shoes suitable for walking.
Tickets are $25 per person and can be purchased online in advance or at the start of the tour (cash only, reservations required). Tour availability is not guaranteed after 12pm on the day of the tour (so make your reservations early!). To make a cash reservation or to inquire about availability after 12pm, please Contact Us.
The tour meets on the north steps of the old Galveston Post Office at 601 25th Street (Corner of 25th & Church). North steps are the ones at the front-right side if you are looking at the building. An introduction will be given here before we proceed on the route, so feel free to have a seat on the steps and make yourselves comfortable.
Tours begin promptly at 5pm October-April and 7pm May-September. Please arrive at least 5-10 minutes early to ensure ample time to park and/or purchase onsite tickets.
Only street parking is available, but it is free west of 25th Street (free after 6pm in paid parking zones). Ideally, look for parking on Church Street between 24th and 26th Streets. If you park in a paid parking zone, the fee can be paid at one of the paystations throughout downtown or by downloading the PayByPhone app and using location #5689 for Downtown Galveston. No paper ticket needed.
Depending on crowd size, the tour runs between 1½-2 hours and ends just one block away from the starting point—only a short walk back to your vehicle after the tour.
We recommended that you bring along drinking water and mosquito repellent during warmer months.
Although the tour route is not ideal for those with limited mobility, tour guides will do their best to be accommodating and offer assistance along the way. We ask that all other tour participants be patient and understanding as we try to ensure a great experience for everyone.
Since we are committed to providing you with the best tour experience possible, tours are weather-permitting and will be canceled if conditions are less than ideal. As a rule, if weather forecasts indicate a chance of rain MORE than 30% or temperatures LOWER than 55 degrees 2 hours before start time, the tour will automatically be canceled, and any online ticket holders will be given the option to reschedule or receive a refund of the ticket price minus a small processing fee.
Tickets purchased online are non-refundable except in the event of inclement weather (see above). However, tickets may be rescheduled or saved for a later date at any time for no additional charge. Please call 409.526.6883 to reschedule or place a hold on your reservation for a future date.
Due to mature content, this tour is strongly recommended for adults and older teens only. Tour content will not be censored for younger audiences, and teens and children must be accompanied by an adult. Discounted tickets for children are not offered, and the purchase of a full-price (adult) ticket for a child serves as parent/guardian’s acknowledgment of this disclaimer.
Photographs along the tour are allowed and encouraged, but please no audio or video recording.
Signed copies of Kimber’s books Galveston’s Red Light District: A History of The Line ($23.99), Galveston Seawall Chronicles ($21.99), and The Maceos and The Free State of Galveston ($23.99) will be available for purchase (cash or credit) at the conclusion of the tour.
If you need additional information or would like to book a Private Tour (only available outside of regularly scheduled tours), please Contact Us.
